While I was in New York for Fashion week back in February, my sister decided to take a day trip from Philly to come visit! So since I had not had a chance to visit my cousin and his lovely wife, Gian Carlo and Sarah, we decided to make it over to Brooklyn for brunch. Of course we had to take some photos for the blog!

They recently published their book Beer Lover's New York, which I had to purchase and I got them to sign it! I am now hoping that after I read it I will become a bit more knowledgeable about beer! Check out their site: BeerUnion and then go get that book!!  

A little note on my outfit...I found this awesome top while looking through the clearance section at Target. It was the only one there and it fit; definitely a meant to be purchase! For this outfit I paired it with the flirty a-line skirt to add some femininity to the look. I can't wait to pair this top with a few other outfits so you can see its versatility.

Makeup Tutorial: Winter Chill

I wanted to put together a look that was fresh and light similar to the look of freshly fallen snow. Of course then I had to add a beautiful red lip to make the look classic and simple, yet striking.

These are some fun photos that Jon took on our last morning at Hillbrook. The snow was coming down so quickly and created this beautiful veil of snow between the lens and I. Snow is fun at any age...though now that I have had my fill, weather can you please warm up?

Who else out there has bought a lipstick or product purely because it had an awesome name?! Any hands up out there? Well I am definitely guilty of doing that, just like with this lipstick I am wearing. It is MAC Lipstick in Lady Danger, can you guys blame me for falling for this color? I mean with a name like Lady Danger, of course I had to snatch it up! I generally am more into the blue reds or true reds and not as into the orange reds, but something about the name of this orange red hoodwinked me into buying it!

What are some products that you bought purely because they had a cool name?

Review: August Birchbox

August's Birchbox

I absolutely love this month's Birchbox! It has some great little sample of things I needed for traveling purposes! 

Here is a breakdown of everything I got and my thoughts on each piece:

Fresh Feet Wipes from Jasmine Fever: These are perfect to have in my purse because they can make the shoe transition from work to happy hour an easier and less stinky process! 

Super Slip Sudsy Shampoo: I used this yesterday (perfect travel size) and it made my hair so easy to de-tangle, which can be quite an event at times, and it made my hair silky and soft without feeling like it still had shampoo residue in it. 

Juice Beauty Oil-Free Moisturizer: This is a very lightweight moisturizer that kept my makeup touch-up free the whole day! It didn't make my makeup cakey either. 

The Perfect Smokey Eye in Bewitched from Coastal Scents: This mini eyeshadow quad is so adorable and perfect to throw in any size purse for a quick get-away! The colors complimented my eye color perfectly and blended beautifully together making it easier to create a smokey eye. Pigmentation was very rich too!

Party Proof Matte Lipstick in Red Velvet by Model Co: This beautiful red lipstick is a nice blue red which compliments most skin-tones and even though it is a matte it goes on smooth like a creamy lipstick and doesn't dry out your lips! 

In the images below I used the Red Velvet Party Proof Lipstick and the Bewitched eye palette to create the perfect going out look! It really made my eyes pop!

Red Lipstick: Best Pick-Me-Up

There is just something magical about how red lipstick can just perk up your spirits!

I know many out these think that it isn't for them or that it draws too much attention to their lips. But if that's the case you just need to find your perfect version of a red lipstick. Trust me its out there!

Here are some different options in texture, finish and opacity. This will at least get your search started, but the best way to find your perfect red is by trying them on! 

True Reds:

Rouge Dior in 999 (Ara Red) : this has a cream finish and is extremely smooth on the lips

Lancome's L'Absolu Rouge in Caprice (similar here): also a cream finish 

Blue Reds:

Rouge Dior in 743 (Zinnia Red): cream finish and ultra smooth texture

Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Intense in Moulin Rouge: velvet cream finish( not as high shine as a regular cream finish)

Kat von D Painted Love Lipstick in Underage Red: matte finish

L'Oreal Infallible Rouge in Refined Ruby: semi-matte finish and long-wear

Lancome's Color Design in Red Stiletto: cream finish

Jean-Michelle Infinite Lipcolor in Tres Rouge (similar here): long-wear and slight sheen 

Tinted Red:

Lancome's Color Design in Retro Rouge: shimmer finish and slight pink tint 

Orange Red:

Rouge Dior in 638 (Blazing Red): cream finish and ultra smooth texture

Deep Reds:

Revlon's Just Bitten in Gothic: lip-stain with clear balm to put on top

Shiseido's Perfect Rouge in 305 (Salon): semi-cream finish

Revlon's Colorburst Lip Butter in Red Velvet: super creamy and moisturizing texture with great color

Sheer Red Tints:

Clinique Chubby Stick in Chunky Cherry: sheer balm finish and moisturizing

Dior Addict Gloss in 853: sheer gloss, moisturizing and not super sticky
